Final Essay |
I never thought an AP class could be this hard. The reason why I chose AP World History is because I thought it would be a fun class to be in, even though alot of of people told me it was hard. I believe that if you never challenge yourself you will never know what you are really capable of. In AP World History I had alot of problems because I always procrastinated, writing high level vocabulary essays, I also had problems comprehending the textbooks. However through out the year I learned to better out those skill and hopefully I will keep applying them next year.
Something that I would have changed this whole year even threw the end was procrastination. Some of the ways I procrastinated this year was when my homework was to do readings in the book. When I would have it as weekend homework I would wait until Sunday night to actually get the reading done. When I would be doing the reading I had the T.V on and that did not help at all. Another way in which I procrastinated by studying for my unit test the night before I had or sometimes even a period before I had the class. Mr.Rodriguez could have told us we had a test or an essay exam a week before or even two weeks before and I didn't study until I was in 2nd period that same day, After a while I noticed I was failing my test and I would wonder why until I found the reason behind it. When I would do that I did not give my best on my essay or on my test. In second semester I would do the same and until it came to study for the AP exam I learned to start studying 2 months before in spring break. I even bought a book that never in my life I would have wasted my money in but I noticed what my priorities where. This book helped me not to procrastinate and this was the only time in my whole year that I did not procrastinate and I am very proud of myself for that change.
One thing that I actually got better with in the whole school year was writing high vocabulary essays. One way that I got better in doing that was when writing comparison essays. When I would write comparison essays I would have to use the same vocabulary that the book would. When doing that I had to look for certain words to know the definition but after a while I was able to apply them to my essay. Also when I wrote DBQ essays. To write a DBQ essay when I read the documents it used high vocabulary and I had to know the definitions and later apply also to my essay. In change over time essays I used high vocabulary to make my essays of better quality. In the beginning of the year I read Mr.Rodriguez thesis and I was like wow his vocabulary is so hard. Threw out the year I learned to write a basic thesis and then add high vocabulary words and that would make a 1 point thesis. By doing that I guaranteed that one point at least. Maybe I am still not the best at doing that but comparing to how I was writing in the beginning I notice the difference and for me that is the only thing that matters.
During the school year in the beginning I had trouble comprehending the textbook and by the end of the year I understood it way better. In the beginning it was hard because I had never read a college book. I would start to read and give up because I would get frustrated with myself for not knowing what it said. It was very hard to understand words that I had never read or even seen in my life and I had to go an online dictionary to understand what I was reading. By the middle of the year I still had trouble but not like before. I still had to look for some words but not all of them. By the end of the year I understood all of the book. Even though I still had to look for 1 out of 5 words I read it was better then 4 out of 5 words I was looking for in the beginning of the year. So at the beginning of the year I had no idea what I was reading but threw out the year I knew exactly what I was reading.
This year in AP World History I procrastinated I learned to better the quality of by essays and I learned to comprehend the book. so yeah maybe AP is not as easy as you may think. But after you get use to knowing that you have homework and also you may have to give up some of your social life and don't worry you will be okay. Also just remember if you never challenge yourself you will never know what you are capable of. My personal recommendation is not to procrastinate Also this is the class that will teach you what your priorities are and have to take it serious. Also always do you home work even though you may not understand what you are doing it is better to try and then the next day ask questions then to be sitting in class not having idea what Mr.Rodriguez is talking about. In this class you should never be afraid to ask questions because if you never do you will never understand what you are learning. Just remember that yeah there maybe some days that Mr.Rodriguez will scream and lectuure you but listen to him because he knows why he says and he tells you for your own good.
